It's Vintage Thingie Thursday over at Colorado Lady's place...don't forget to go by and tell Suzanne how much you appreciate her sponsoring it for us...
Today I only have one Thrift store find, but I think it also goes with Vintage Thursday along with a little item Dear Hubby made me 38 yrs ago. I hope that is considered vintage enough...The Thrift store find is the little Chicken on top of my bread box
I found this cute little girl at my favorite Thrift Store several months ago. She doesn't have anything written on the bottom, but she looks vintage to me.The bread box is my little gift from DH. When DH first started doing wood working to go with his Home Building he made me this little breadbox out of pine and stained it. Well we didn't know that you never seal the inside with varnish...WE DID, so it was rendered unusable for years. I finally took it out of storage about 12 yrs ago and painted a scene on the front and painted it to match my kitchen. I mostly used it on top of my freezer to hold papers, but have recently moved it to the counter next to the stove. All the smell is gone and it is finally usable as a breadbox...yaaa.
My question today is Should I leave it painted as is, or should I redo it?
Your hen looks very old to me and I love the barn scene on your breadbox. Guess the barn and chicken seem to go together to me. I'd leave it if it still goes with your kitchen decor.
ReplyDeleteYour breadbox is very pretty. The little chicken is old enough to make it all qualify for today's VTT.
ReplyDeleteI'd leave as is. The painting is great!
ReplyDeleteLove the painted bread box. Cute chicken too.
ReplyDeleteGosh, Molly...I normally am all about makeovers, but I like your bread box like it is...that's a really pretty country painting on it!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Tammy
Leave it the way it is. You can always find something else to paint differently.
ReplyDeleteI like it. You can always do it later. If your like me you have a ton of projects on the burner.
ReplyDeleteLove the little retro chicken. and....I HEART RED BARNS...need I say any more??? Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove the chicken and the breadbox! I say ask your husband to make you a new top that you can paint however you like, and keep the old one, maybe display it elsewhere. Just my two cents!
ReplyDeleteLove the little chicken. He looks just right on the bread box, as for me I'd keep it as is.

I LOVE that painting on the bread box, what a SHAME if you were to obliterate it!!!
ReplyDeleteMolly,
ReplyDeleteI just love the bread box and the little chick. I wouldn't repaint it (I like barns)!

I LOVE it the way it is, I would not do a thing to it! But then again, it is new to us, and you might be looking for a change! It is very pretty and I love it like it is...cute little chicken too, what a cute Vintage post today!! Have a great VTT!
ReplyDeleteWell the votes are in and everyone agreed with DH, he says it should stay just like it is, he love little red barns. So it will stay just like it is (for a little while anyhow)
ReplyDeleteLEAVE IT! Molly it is beautiful. Why not vanish the inside? Smell? It is lovely.

Hi Molly, the colors on that hen are beautiful. I like the breadbox as it is, it goes with the other items well.
