It's Thursday again so that means it Vintage thingies Thurs. over at ColoradaLady's I love VTT, I love all things old...lol..I have to since I'm old...I would like to say starting off...
And what, you ask, is this last weird, ugly item I'm showing with my beautiful dishes, ..wellllllll..it's a vintage brass bottle opener/ice crusher that was used back when folks still had ice delivered to the homes in blocks. DH bought this about 20 yrs ago in an Antique Mall in Branson, Mo. and this is the terrible instrument he threatened to destroy my innocent mouse with if I ordered one more thing off of EBay. I shutter just looking at it.....
I HOPE YOU ENJOYED MY VINTAGE THINGIES! SEE YOU NEXT WEEK! FOR MORE WONDERFUL VINTAGE THINGIES VISIT COLORADO LADY
Hello, my name is Marjorie and I am a recovering Ebayaholic...about 9 yrs ago I went through a very trying time. I had 5 knee surgeries in less than 2 years including 2 total replacements. After the last surgery I had complications from staph and was bed ridden for 6 months on antibiotic drips and pain meds. The computer was my constant companion, EBay and I became inseparable, VERY inseparable......I was addicted. I started slowly one piece at a time, before I knew it I was hooked, I had to have my fix everyday.......oh the shame of it...woo is me...I collecting my Hall's, got a whole set of dishes 48 different teapots, plus a zillion other Hall's items...if it said Hall's it had to be mine. Mine, Mine, Mine, but before long I had started eyeing Noritake dishes, have several sets in the making right now of them, but have come to my senses and only buy sparingly. I am buying a complete set of 2 different sets, as Wedding gifts for my Grands.
Finally DH intervene, enough is enough, said he...get help or I will crush your mouse and cut up your credit cards. I cried and pleaded, I have to get just one more, just one, but he stood firm..no..ony if I approve and only for a certain amount...I can live with that, so I stopped buying from Ebay...now I just hit the junk stores...giggle..find alot of Hall's there also.
Anyhow I said all of that to explain the 4 pieces that I am going to show tonight, they are just 1 of MANY 3 or 4 piece sets of different dishes I just had to have while I was having an affair with EBay....shhhh, don't tell DH, but I still see EBay every now and then to get my fix...lol..Bwahahahah
This pattern is by Noritake and it's called The Coniston, I'm sure I got a good price on them, because I got the platter, the gravy bowl and the small demitasse cup for one price. And later found the large vegetable bowl on another auction. I don't really have anything to match them. Baby boy has a set of Solid white with a single gold ring around the edge, from Noritake (that I purchased off EBay) that they look good paired with. Might give these to him one day...
Here is the complete set.....that I have...a 12" platter, a nice size covered veggie bowl, a gravy boat with attached saucer, and 1 small demitasse cup.And what, you ask, is this last weird, ugly item I'm showing with my beautiful dishes, ..wellllllll..it's a vintage brass bottle opener/ice crusher that was used back when folks still had ice delivered to the homes in blocks. DH bought this about 20 yrs ago in an Antique Mall in Branson, Mo. and this is the terrible instrument he threatened to destroy my innocent mouse with if I ordered one more thing off of EBay. oh Molly, you're ssoo brave to share that with everyone..i know, ebay can be verry addictive, can't it :) btw your dishes are GORGEOUS!!
ReplyDeleteThats a pretty pattern ... especially like the colors. And watch out for that ice breaker (at least it's less scary than an ice pick ... remember "Fatal Attraction" ? LOL
ReplyDeletethat is beautiful dishes! love the colours.. oh boy.. Ebay.. treasure trove to many of us.. like you, I got to stop shopping from Ebay.. been doing for 5 years.. and now I hardly buy anymore.. very addictive!
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter!
Oh my Molly, you made me smile this morning gal!
ReplyDeleteI've never used ebay but I was looking at a blog the other day that had what is called Kelly purses a retro style purse and it brought back such sweet memories of sitting in Church going through my grandmothers purse that I very near ordered one...LOL...I think I'll just check the thrift stores *wink* I would not want to get "hooked".
Your site is always to pretty. I really like your template!
Have an awesome day!
Sorry...I meant to type
ReplyDeleteYou site is always "so" pretty...*giggles*
I really like this pattern!
ReplyDeleteSome people are having trouble viewing my blog and getting a stack overflow message. To fix this, just empty your Temp or Temp Internet folder. You might also want to consider switching to Firefox as your browser. Just an FYI!
A girl after my own heart. I try and stay off of ebay for the most part...you know once you take a look and find one thing...it leads to many deliveries by the mailman!
ReplyDeleteLove the pattern of the dishes, that is so pretty and delicate. Have a great Easter weekend.
Thanks for the smiles today! You are one cool chick!
ReplyDeleteNo wonder you got hooked on Ebay. When you are recovering or isolated with an injury or illness, Ebay and the Internet become your "window on the world" and it sure is hard to stop. I see things and I think "I remember that! I have nothing from when I grew up, I want that!!!!" but luckily I have no money. LOL....yer hubby, gosh, he was ROUGH and TOUGH but I guess it was shocking enough to help you stay away from the "Buy It Now" button!!! The grands will certainly enjoy the sets you are making for them...
ReplyDeleteMarjorie, you post made me laugh. I was probably bidding against you on a lot of those Hall pieces on EBay. Beautiful china.
ReplyDeleteI too, have had my time with EBay. I bought some vintage pillow cases there and they are so pretty! Love your pics!
ReplyDeleteBelieve me, I know about eBay. I got so good at eBay, that I've had friends and relatives who've had me bid for them because they're scared of it.
ReplyDeleteI've never bought anything too expensive, and I've really never been ripped off. Well, one time I did buy some crystal wine goblets that were pictured and a being like my wedding crystal. When they arrived, they were similar to mine, but they were not the goblets that were pictured. I should have protested and made the seller take them back, but it was just too much trouble. In fact, I thought at the time that they were probably part of my Lenox crystal pattern, just a different size. However, I later saw them in an antique store, and it turns out they were made by Tiffin. I got mad all over again.
I'll have to say, that was an enjoyable read! By the looks of all of the VTT gals possessions, I'll have to say that we are all afflicted with the same disease...not that that is bad! I like to look at it as preserving history! Your china is a lovely pattern.
ReplyDeleteMolly, you're such a nut!
ReplyDeleteHonest, and hilarious.
I agree with the old Dame, that being down, being ill, being alone makes the internet and ebay your bestest buddies.
Dishes are lovely by the way...they look french to me in pattern. Your grands will be glad for your "affair"....he hee!
I love your dishes, they're beautiful... and I have quite a story about myself and ebay and a 3 day weekend of horrors.:)You see, I was also addicted.. I'll have to blog about that story soon..Hope your VTT is a happy one..have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteThe dishes are gorgeous! And your story made me laugh... I suppose we have all been there, had our spells.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing,
Stephanie

I've had both of my knees replaced, but I did not endure an infection. However, with my spinal surgery, I was in bed for 6 months. I never realized that a person could eBay from bed! I guess you could sit up; I could not.
ReplyDeleteYour china is gorgeous. If you're going to be addicted, that's a pretty pattern to attach to.
I love Ebay but I have been trying to keep it
