Rednesday and special ornies....

Today is Rednesday over that It's A Very Cherry World, and I am joining in for the first time, right now she is doing for Christmas she is doing a Rednesday for Christmas and this being my favorite Christmas color I though I just had to join in, stop by and visit with all of our red lovers by clicking here...
For my first Rednesday I want to show you a few of my treasured red ornies and tell you why they are so special to me...

First is my little pitiful worn felt Santa, I made this little guy my first Christmas with my Hubby, we were married at 18 and times were tough, the first year in our little apartment we decorated with home made ornies and a few purchased at Wool-Worth..how many of you remember the old 5 & dimes, TG&Y and Wool Worth? My first job was at Wool Worth, but I digress...I made this little Santa 49 yrs ago and just can't part with him, dirty face and all he is hung on my tree every year since.

This next one is my favorite glass ornie, it is hand blown and was brought to me from Germany when my oldest Son came home on leave when he was Stationed in Germany in 1985, it has honors near the top of the tree so no little hands can touch it.

This Santa head ornie is the first ceramic ornie I painted while Son was in Germany, I know it sounds silly but my art and ceramics is all that kept me from going insane for 2 years while my BABY was so far away from home, I was a Mom who didn't take to letting go of her kids too easy...lol..silly I know but as my friends would say when my children were younger and still at home, "Momma Bear" don't let go easy. Well, I still don't...lol..they are my world.

These 2 little rubbery like plastic Pixies were bought at Penny's 41 yrs ago, the top one was my oldest boy's ornie for that year he was 5 yrs old and the bottom one was my middle son's, he was 4 mos old....

Last but not least this little guy is 30 yrs old, he was my BB's first Christmas ornie...and he still hangs around the tree every year.
Well that is my Red for today hope you enjoyed my first attempt at Rednesday.
Have a Blessed and Merry Christmas and please remember our men and women of the Armed Forced who are giving us the freedom to Celebrate this special Holiday and are not with their families this year

  1. I'm much like you, Molly. My tree has ornaments that are handmade and aged. We married when I just turned 17, and we've celebrated 51 years, so some of my stuff is special only to us, but special nonetheless.

  4. I love all of your ornaments, and it's easy to see that they hold alot of great memories for you! I especially like that felt one that you made with your hubby all those years ago. And yes, I miss good old Woolworths too! It was a real treat to go there when we would go to the big city of Chicago! That gingham ornament is so cute too!
    Happy REDnesday!

  5. Welcome to Rednesday Molly! I loved all your sweet ornaments. It's especially nice that so many are homemade and they all have such sentimental value.
    Warm hugs,

  10. What beautiful memories. My Daughter has my old santa decoration that went on our tree every year since I was a child. She says that is the first decoration that she puts on her tree.
