Vintage Thingies Thursday...what was I thinking...

Well ladies this week has just flown by...can you believe it's Thurs. again, we have been having storms all week along with most of the folks from TX to the East Coast. AL had some very bad weather yesterday, so please keep everyone in your prayers, please.
OK, this week ColoradoLady has asked have you ever bough anything and then said.....what was I thinking, my item is more of "what was HE thinking" he being my DH, who usually has pretty got taste, but I'm not too sure this time..5 yrs ago he and I made the trip up the Longest Yard Sale from AL to the northern border of Kentucky...some where in Kentucky we stopped at a yard sale that several ladies was putting on, one lady had some stuff from her Mom's house that she was cleaning out...I found a few little kitchen items like Pyrex pie plates nothing special. Well as we were leaving DH spied a small table set under a tree, and he laid eyes on this and fell in love...
what was he thinking?, I tried to talk him out of it, but he just had to have it....when he asked about it, well of course the lady told how she hated to get rid of it, but she was remodeling her home and it just didn't fit anymore...well, it don't fit my house either...so he asked how much and when she said, $5.00 he had his billfold out so fast I didn't get a chance to even said...but de.....
So now it sits "Proudly" in my living room next to his chair....no talking him out of it...he even offered to let me use it in my re-do of the bedroom..."WHAT IS HE THINKING? he actually loves it....lol..my sons have offered to sneak in whiles he's gone and steal it, but knowing him he'd call the cops for his beloved "ugly" lamp....still shaking my head....lol...
I HOPE YOU ENJOYED MY VINTAGE THINGIES! SEE YOU NEXT WEEK! FOR MORE WONDERFUL VINTAGE THINGIES VISIT COLORADO LADY

  1. Well, I am sorry to say, I have to agree with your DH. I love that lamp. Just look at the scene on the side of the lamp itself....lovely.

And as you read in my post....most likely worth a fortune if taken to Antique Roadshow!!

I have always wanted to go to the Longest Yard Sale, but I would need a trailer to haul all the loot home.

Be sure to tell your DH that someone else likes his lamp....Is that a good thing or a bad?

  2. Hi Molly! Hilarious post. I sort of like the lamp, but then I haven't seen the rest of your home! Husbands are funny that way!

Thanks so much for dropping by and leaving your kind comment on my post. I REALLY debated on painting that school desk. Part of me worries about ruining the integrity of a find like that, but the other part of me knows it's mine and I'll never take it to Antique Roadshow! LOL

I bet yours looks pretty darn cute with the little Amish doll sitting on it!

    Blessings to you,
    Valerie

  3. I'm surprised that thing doesn't attract lightning, it's so ugly. I hate to tell yer hubby this, but it would look right at home in a bordello...

  5. Oh, bless you heart Molly, I so understand what you're going through! Why is it husbands think they have taste and should contribute to the home decorating?! Over the years, I have had so many of my DHs great little 'finds' turn up missing! Never can figure out what happened to them?! Great post! So humorous! Have a great day!

    Many hugs...........

  8. I loved reading your story. I haven't decided who's side I'm on, the lamp looks kind of cute but it may be in complete disharmony with the rest of the house.

  9. Great post. Since I have no decor. The lamp would blend in my house! Love the story! Thanks, Ruby

  10. I think the problem is more likely that the lamp just doesn't work with your decor. I don't think it's ugly but I do think that shade is wrong for it.
I feel your pain, once in a while my husband will say he likes something and i am like " what? "

  11. OK I am laughing, Thanks. It probably doesn't fit your decor but I like it. Of course I am a vintage person. I mean really age vintage. BIG smile.

If you visit my outdoor post from yesterday you will see a lovely porch and then....The most not matching corner dedicated to my dh. What we do to keep our man happy!!!

    Hugs...Jeanne

  13. This will be a life long memory and something your children can laugh about for a long time! Just when we think we have the guys figured out, they show another side of themselves. Not sure if I like the lamp or not...guess it would depend on its surroundings...not in my house though!

  14. The lamp is pretty and your gotta love the man. Your story made me think of the movie...A Christmas Story...where the man wins a lamp that is a leg and he loves it and it is mysteriously broken...smiles for a great post.

  17. What? There's nothing wrong with that lamp. It's just your attitude TOWARDS that lamp honey.

    It's a cool lamp.

  20. What a great story. My hubby doesn't get too involved in buying things for the house but when he finds something he really likes there's no talking him out of it. Oh how I'd love to do that trip. Maybe someday.

  21. If it makes him happy, maybe it's just as well! I think it's funny to read the "love it" "hate it" comments!

  22. Not much to say about the lamp - not my cup o tea!

  23. I think it's rather pretty in its own way... I do wonder though what he fell in love with... ;-)

  24. I think it's pretty. It just needs a different shade.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Should I be embarrassed to say I like it? I'd do a different shade though, maybe even a black one.

  26. Isn't it funny how something can just touch a nerve and that's it...you love it! even if everyone around doesn't!

Thanks for the chuckle! (I'm just visiting around this week.)
