ABC of food's Monday

This week I am joining the meme A-Z on Monday ~~ blogging our way through the alphabet~~ All About Food! at Unglazed, check out her blog for other foods starting with Q my food is quiche...

I had to go to the internet for this one, looks good but I've never made a quiche in my life...must add it to my bucket list....

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces bacon
  • 1 (9 inch) unbaked 9 inch pie crust
  • 2 cups sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 5 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups half-and-half
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1 (4 ounce) can diced green chile peppers, drained

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain, crumble and set aside.
  2. Place crust in a 9 inch glass pie plate. Sprinkle bacon inside of crust. In a small bowl, combine Cheddar cheese, Monterey jack cheese and flour. In a separate bowl, beat together eggs, cream, onion and green chiles. Add cheese mixture; stir well. Pour mixture into pie crust.
  3. Bake in preheated oven for 60 to 70 minutes, until set. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

  2. I've never made quiche but we have a little restaurant nearby that serves something very similar to your recipe. Hope you have a great day.

  3. We all like quiche---I fiddled with the recipe til it was just like we liked it. It makes a 9x13 or a big souffle dish, and doesn't need a crust. That's the one we serve at family gatherings, just with a spoon.

Just call it a Ham and Egg Pie, and all the hunters and fishermen and non-quiche people gather round. And ask for it for the next time.

We used to make them by the dozens for weddings and parties.

  4. I've made the crustless quiche before. Turned out pretty good. Had to add meat for hubby cause he's a meat-a-trian.

  9. Your recipe sounds tasty! Adding it to the "bucket list" conjures up this image of a bucket filled with quiche. Not a totally bad image...
