Blue Monday...odds 'n' ends

It's time again for Blue Monday over at Smiling Sally's. Thank you Sally for giving us this chance to show our special blues....Can't wait to see all the pretty blue items that our friends have to show.
This is a Cross stitch and a crochet picture I have hanging on my living room wall. The bottom one was given to me as a gift from a friend I worked with about 15 yrs ago. And the top was made for me by my middle DIL for Christmas this year. She decided she was going to try and give all homemade gifts this year and I just love it, it goes just perfect with the first one. I think they make a nice arrangement.

This is a little pot, that I found at a little Flea Market, several years ago in Hammond. La. the lady who owned the shop said it was a little butter pot. The spout has been broken and repaired with a kind of rubber band. I really thought it was cute and unusual, and the price couldn't be beat, $.25. But what really clenched the deal was, she was going to throw it away if it didn't sale that week. Welll, now I sure couldn't let that happen, lol..my house is the land of misfit china....It sure appreciated me bringing it home...
This last is a little mini chicken pot my DIL's Mom gave me on her last visit to Mississippi, she had been to her Brother's in Maine and ound it at a little shop and brought it to me.
That is my Blue Monday offerings. I hope you enjoyed them. Please leave comments, I love to hear what everyone thinks, even if it's bad. For more Blue Monday Posts please visit Smiling Sally by clicking here.

Sunday Favorites Sunday re-runs..How to paint a snowman wine glass.

I have decided to take part in a new meme by Chari over @ happytodesign http://happytodesign.blogspot.com/ This is what she says about it.....I'm trying something a little different today. I thought that it might be fun to dedicate Sundays to a "re-run" of a favorite blog post! As bloggers, we oftentimes have a favorite post that we've really enjoyed blogging about, however it seems to get buried or forgotten about, amongst the many other posts that we've published. In light of that, I thought it would be fun to do a brand new Sunday meme..."Sunday Favorites"...where we can repost a favorite! Many of you have been blogging for years and you have published some really great posts...it would be so nice to share them again!

I had planned to make a video of this but then I realized my camera is in Madison over 2 hrs away...so much for videos, so I'm going to try to show you the best I can...you only need 4 colors of paint and we will mix to make the colors we need...

You will need

1 stem wine glass

a small section of sponge ( just a small kitchen sponge is fine)

a small stencil brush,

a thin point black marker

a small liner brush and a #2 round brush

1 bottle of red acrylic paint

black acrylic paint

yellow acrylic paint

white acrylic paint.
a paper plate

water, you can use a pint jar

paper towels

scissors
Thanks Terry for reminding me to add....wash glass in warm soapy water, dry... and then before you start, wipe with alcohol to remove any oil from your hands or any soap residue. Next cut a small square from the sponge and wet it in the water make sure to squeeze as much water out as possible, then dip the sponge into the white paint
Just started dabbing the glass with the white paint, do not paint all the way to the top, you need to leave an area to drink from where there is no paint. It will take about 3 coats to cover it good. Be sure and let it dry for about an hour between each coat. Cover the stem and the foot of the glass also
Just a few ideas, but you can make any face you like on these.. use your imagination.

Once the base coat is dry, completely, totally dry, raw a face on the glass, I usually use the thin point black marker, that way I already have my black outline and all I have to do is fill in the color. Don't worry if your lines aren't exactly where you want them to be, like my left eye, I can straighten it up with a little white paint and redrawing the line.

On the paper plate put out a puddle of black and a puddle of white. Put out red and yellow. Use just a drop of the red in the yellow to make orange, mix and add colors untill you get desired orange, in another spot add a drop of red to the white to form pink. Using the round brush color book the eyes and mouth black..
Then using the round paint the nose orange.....
Pick up some of the pink on a dry stencil brush, wiping most of it off on a paper towel. Using a circular motion lightly touching the glass add the cheeks...do not rub hard or you'll lift the white off.
I took the liner brush and some black paint and straighten the messed up left eye and then filled in the upper eye section with white covering up the first line...wa-la..the mess up is gone...I used the liner brush and some white to draw a high lite line on the nose, added a comma stroke of white to the eyes and mouth and just a dot of white to the cheeks, add hat and he's done. You can add pine or holly leaves around the base if you like or add a ribbon. I filled mine with silver bells.

After your glass completely dries spray with a clear acrylic spray being care not to spray the rim of your glass. I usually cover the top part with masking tape while I spray the whole painted area.

Do not wash your glass in the dish washer or in hot soapy water, wipe the painted area with a damp cloth, the inside and rim can be washed with a hot soapy dish cloth..

I hope I didn't confuse anybody and you enjoyed my little how - to...

Faith and worship Sunday..The pine tree crosses...200 post give away...

This is an Email I received last week and just had to share........I have heard the story of the Dogwood, but have never heard this one....

Last April on a Sunday we took one of our "nowhere" drives, my husband was quietly driving a back road. I was occupied in the front passenger seat watching the scenery.

I noticed out of the corner of my eye that my husband was straining to look out my window.

This startled me, since his eyes should be on the road in front of him. I asked him what he was looking at out the windows, and he quietly replied, "Nothing." His eyes went back to the road in front of him.

After a few minutes, I looked over at my husband and noticed a tear running down his cheek. I asked him what was wrong. This time he told me, "I was just thinking about Pop and a story he had once told me." Of course, because it had to do with his Pop I wanted to know the story, so I asked him to share it with me.

He said, "When I was about 8 years old, Pop and I were out fishing and that's when he told me that the Pine trees know when it is Easter."I had no idea what he meant by that, so I pressed him for more information. He continued on... "The Pine trees start their new growth in the weeks before Easter -- if you look at the tops of the Pine trees two weeks before, you will see the yellow shoots.. As the days get closer to Easter Sunday, the tallest shoot will branch off and form a cross. By the time Easter Sunday comes around, you will see that most of the Pine trees will have small yellow crosses on all of the tallest shoots."I turned to look out the window and I couldn't believe my eyes. It was a week before Easter, and you could see all of the trees with the tall yellow shoots stretching to Heaven. The tallest ones shone in the sunlight like rows of tiny golden crosses.

I hope you enjoyed this, I know I did. I'd never heard about the pine tree story. But as I look at the picture and think back I remember seeing the small crosses on the pine trees.

My thought today is, why when even the trees and nature of God's world knows and Accepts the Death and Resurrection and the Glory of Jesus and our Holy Lord, is it so hard for humans to accept it? Why do so many question?

I will be posting my 200th post this week and will be having a give away. So check back to see what it will be.

An Attitude of Gratitude...award...

Rhonda of Down Memory Lane @ http://rhondas3boys.blogspot.com/ has honored me with an award. I want to thank her for this sweet honor.

When life gives you lemons....make lemonade!
This is the "An Attitude of Gratitude” award for showing a grateful attitude within my posts. Since it's a gratitude award I would like to tell you what I am Grateful for:
I am grateful....For my Mom, she had a very hard life, life gave her lemons at every turn. I could write a book about her suffering and heart aches from birth to the grave at age 55.. But she very seldom pitied herself, she always said, "all I have to do is look around and will see people in worse shape than me". When my little sister was born, with a mind of a 6 mos old, she didn't cry and scream "why me Lord" why am I being punished, she said "Thank you Lord for entrusting me with your Angel to care for". Even when she was left alone by an abusive husband and had to work 12-16 hrs a day to support us little ones she always smiled and made the best of it. God gave her a kind heart and attitude of Gratitude
I am grateful... for my DH who is always there for me,
for my Dear Lord who always sees me through the rough times as well as the good.
For my dearest friend and Sis who is always here for me, we have shared so much together.....
For how fine my boys have turned out...lol...there were times as teenagers I was doubtful they would make it. Mostly they were lucky to survive ME...lol...
I have not been blessed with money wealth but with a forgiving heart. My DH says sometimes I'm too gullible, maybe I am, but we all have to answer for our sins. If I refuse to help someone in need then I will have to answer on Judgement day, if someone takes advantage of my help, then they will answer for it, not me. And what good does it do to carry hate in your heart, you just let the person you hate win, they couldn't care less how you feel, they go on everyday while your hate destroys you.
I am so grateful to Rhonda for this award. And will be sending it to other ladies that I think deserve it but it is so hard to choose among all of my great friends. I believe everyone on my followers list are worthy.
