The Simple Woman's Day Book

To view more Simple Woman's Day Books click hereFOR TODAY
Outside my window...it is still dark, and it is cold, a typical MS Oct. morning….

I am thinking ..what a full week I am going to have this week , I sure miss my boys being little and dressing up and going Trick or Treating, times has changed so much since then.

I am thankful …..for all of the wonderful gifts God has given me, I am thankful that Ronnie was able to attend Mass yesterday, just 5 days after surgery, that Kryk got to go home from Hospital…he is still on bed rest with oxygen, but the clot is dissolving.

From the kitchen...for breakfast it’s hot coffee, smoked pork chops and biscuits
Supper will be hummmm, I’m thinking a big pot of home made chili would go perfect with our cold weather, add a few Fritos and cheese on top…with a big glass of milk…..sounds like a winner to me.

I am wearing…pink flannel night gown…haven‘t gotten dressed yet, it‘s still not day light out.…….

I am going…to be very busy this week, Getting ready for fall festival (what ever happen to just saying Halloween party) Sat night. I love the Halloween season and all the little ghost and goblins running around. I know they aren’t allowed to dress up like that at Church any more….but some still come by the house.

I am creating...gifts for door prizes for the “Fall Festival”

I am reading...Beth Moore’s study of Daniel. We will study the prophets this week.

I am hearing...total silence except for the clicking of the keyboard and the humm of the modem…every once in awhile a lone car going by.

Around the house...really got to clean up kitchen, defrosted freezer and got it organized Sat. Watch out I’m on a roll, just might organize the blog before it’s over with. Also need to fold clothes and wash some more…

One of my favorite things...the still of a cool crisp Mississippi Oct. morning…and the sound of a Whipper Will.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
Monday…clean house good. Go to town and talk to insurance salesman…(I hate this job) but will be losing my GM insurance starting Jan 1, so have no choose. ...

Tuesday…go to Wally World and buy candy for Sat night, some for our little Ghost and Goblins that come knocking every year….and some for the Fall Festival and hay ride at Church, plus get stuff to make a cake for the cake walk.

Weds….finish painting door prize and take to Church when I go to Bible Study tonight.

Thurs…hopeful get the grass cut for the last time this year. Yep you read that right, getting ready for Halloween by cutting the grass, “only in the deep South”…lol….

Fri. …need to go visit Niece who had spine surgery last week. Boy the Drs love my family this month…lol, but..I am just Thankful all is doing ok and they were able to get help, so many in our world today can’t afford to get the help they need.

Sat…make cake for tonight....It's the big spooky Day..lol..Halloween, getting ready for the Hay Ride and FF.. fun night with friends.

Sunday Church and then if it‘s pretty DH and I plan to do a little back roads driving in search of old long forgotten cemeteries. I love to read the old head stones and take pictures.…..

Here is picture thought I am sharing...I received this in an email, and I really have to admit sometimes I feel like doing the very same thing to some of the folks I know ...lol...
Hope everyone has a great week and relax, enjoy the week, enjoy the Holiday, it is just a fun day, don't try to make it anything else...give folks credit for knowing right from wrong... we all take life to seriously some times, just remember none of us is going to get out of this world alive, have a blessed week. I am planning on having a blast passing out candy to the little ghost and witches and goblins, then will also enjoy the "Fall Festival"

Sunday Favorite Re-runs

It's time again for Sunday Favorite Re-runs, a new Meme hosted by Chari over @ happytodesign http://happytodesign.blogspot.com/ It is so much fun to go back and re-run some of my favorite post.
Tom Turkey and the tom tom drums
We moved back to Brookhaven in the late Winter of my first grade year, Dean was in the 3d, but for some reason the Brookhaven School system decided since we moved from another state….(mainly that sinful city of New Orleans …lol…Brookhaven was a real prude city back then)…, so late in the year we would have to repeat those grades again. That wasn’t any fun but at 6 yrs old I did’t pay as much attention as Sis did, being in 3d grade. But we survived, we had each other.
We had fun during the summer and ran free and did all the things kids did for entertainment, back in the 50’s and a few things other kids didn’t do…lol…we’d catch lightening bugs, made animals out of Maypops, ( thanks Penni for reminding me of these) have you ever spent hours making your own toys to play with. We had a whole farm yard full of maypop cows…lol…as much fun as making clover necklaces….
Granny had an old Tom Turkey, Oh my he loved to strut and let everybody know who was boss… that barn yard was his, hey that was fine with me, he could have the barn yard, but he decided he wanted the whole 90 acres along with front and back yards with the front lane thrown in to boot....we called him Demon and man that sucker would make the Devil himself run for cover, he was bad, mean, evil, sneaky and cunning Even Granddaddy’s old English Bull dog that loved to hunt snakes ran for dear life from this thing, he was huge, he had to stand 7 feet tall, ..lol..in a child's eyes he stood that tall...his eyes were red and his talons were like switch blade knives, and a good 12 inches long, You walk outside the safety of the front yard and you’d hear those wings flapping and those giant feet stomping the ground , have you ever hear a turkey stomp the ground, not a pretty sound.... sounded like war drums, boom, boom, boom, you wasn’t sure if it was Tom beating the ground or just your heart beating from fear and your life would flash before your eyes and the first words you’d scream was OH CRAP RUN-N-N-N-N-N-N and you could hear the ping of those talons popping out like a switch blade knife and cold chills went up your spine…all you could do was run for the picnic table in the front lane and pray you made it before he did…I still carry scares on the back of my legs were I didn’t run fast enough…Dean’s theory was all she had to do was out run me…this was one bad dude, the only person he didn’t scare was Granny and that was probably cause she was as mean as he was…now when I said his eyes were red, I wasn’t joking, he was solid white with beady red eyes, first Albino Turkey I ever saw. Granny had to keep him locked up in a stale next to the corn crib most of the time and when you had to go in the corn crib to get some corn to feed the pigs you better make sure you didn’t get close to the left wall cause he was going to get you with them switch blade claws, through a crack in the boards.
He was so sneaky, we would ease outside and look for him, ahhh, he’s nowhere to be seen, breathing a sigh, thinking he’s locked up, ok, lets go play and when you got just far enough away from the front porch to not have a snowballs change in heck to make it back to the door, he’d ease out from behind the corner of the house and stomp those big feet and the chase was on….once we made it to the table, he'd strut around and around it, with those tail feathers spread and gobbling all the while, like he was daring us to run, well now our Momma didn't raise no fools, we weren't going no where, neither was Spot who usually made it to the table with us. Granny would have to come shoo him away so we could get down, as long as she was there he wouldn't run us, oh but he wanted to, you could feel those beady eyes staring, hoping she'd leave while we were still far enough away from the door... she should have baked him for Thanksgiving, but as ornery as he was he'd probably been to tough to eat or gave us all food poisoning....Lord I hated that Turkey and didn’t grieve one bit when he passed in his sleep, I couldn’t help but laugh, I wonder where the Devil was hiding when he came through Hell’s gate and started stomping those big feet….ping..ugh oh there goes them claws...lol...
Old Demon live for many years, too many. And he never mellowed with age if anything he got worse. Sometimes I wish we’d took a picture of him….Na, he’d probably scared the camera to death. This picture is of Momma and Dean on the old picnic table. LOL..Momma looks like she is hunting for Demon...

Next time The passing of a great man and sorrow at the farm house, we had to say good bye to our beloved friends.

To prove Christians have a sense of Humor....

I received this in an E-Mail and just loved it....

Vintage Thingie Thursday

Hello my dear friends, first let me say how much I appreciated the sweet comments and emails I received after my post last week about needing time off. All of your sweet prayers and wishes were much needed.
Ronnie had his surgery again yesterday and is doing fine, even though he is in a lot of pain, the tare was larger and deeper this time. Since he just had the first surgery 2 mos ago it wasn't totally healed. I am slowly working out some of my problems, it is sad to work all your life so when you reach my age, you won't have to worry only to have it taken away by means behind your control, but, even with this set back I am totally blessed and will move on as usual.
I haven't took part in vintage thingie Thurs. in a while, but I just had to show you my new "old" dresser sets, that I found when Sis and I went rambling a couple of weeks ago.
The first set is an eggshell color with a pale yellow hand made lace trim and beautiful baskets full of pink flowers embroidered on them, there was only 2 of these, one center section and one side scarf. Sure wish there had been all 3 of them. The 2 pieces cost me $2.00; a buck apiece....I just love the delicate hand work on this pieces.

This next set is so different from what I usually like, but the black just seemed perfect with my black furniture and black and beige bedspread and curtains....this dresser set had all 3 pieces...ya...and it only cost $6.
See how nice it matches the bedspread?...

HOPE YOU ENJOYED MY VINTAGE THINGIES! SEE YOU NEXT WEEK!

Up-date

My son just found out today he has to have surgery on his shoulder again next Tuesday, it did not heal right and the physical therophy  the Dr had him doing at home didn't help but made it worse. He will be out of work another 3 mos. or more and at a time like this, that is scary. Please keep him in your prayers and thoughts. I want to thank all of you for your sweet comments. I will be going up there Fri to help them get the house ready for an apprisal, to try to refinence to get his notes cheaper.
Love you all.

Need some time

I just wanted to drop by and say I am so very honored to have all of you as my dear friends and followers.
I have always tried to be up beat, honest and positive, but there are times when I just can't fight this feeling of sadness and blues, my middle boy shares this with me and he calls it the change of Season blues. I usually can over come, but there is so much going on in my world right now that I can't seem to cope to well. Mainly I would like to ask for prayers and remembrance for my son. He has just went through a bad surgery and has a lot of worries because of heath concerns and insurance and of course money. He is not handling the change well and I'm not handling his hurt or his way of handling it too well. I will not be around for awhile, I just don't feel anything but sorrow right now and will not bring you down by posting sadness. (ater this) I will post anything positive that does come my way.
I will be ok, I have put it in the Lord's hands but sometimes it's hard to let go. I just pray that my child will be ok. Please if any of my FB friends read this do not mention it on FB cause my son is on there with me.
See you soon.

Re-Run Sunday

It's time again for Sunday Favorite Re-runs, a new Meme hosted by Chari over @ happytodesign http://happytodesign.blogspot.com/ It is so much fun to go back and re-run some of my favorite post.

Natchez and a little junkin' along the way.

Last Weds my Sis and I took my little Rissa to Natchez and junkin' we had such a great time. We went to several Thrift stores and found several items both for me and for her. What we found is for another post. We toured the city and also went to Natchez Under the Hill......to learn more about it click here.....Natchez Under the Hill.
I took alot of pictures because little girl was so excited, she is extremely unusual for an 8 yr old. She loves just riding and looking at beautiful old homes and never gets bored.
This is she and my Sis, her Great-Aunt Dean

Of course the tom boy in her found a great old tree to climb...
Next are just some old houses that she had to have pictures of....

The one above is being remodeled and she just loved the wood work on the front....
Then it was on to the Natchez under the Hill area and the MS River...
She loves looking at the River, she just acted like she'd never seen it before and she has, she said that the river is ever changing and moving....
Signs in a Park above the River
A beautiful old home across the road from the park it is so lovely with the court yard between the main house and the kitchen...

You can just catch a glimpse of the River Gambling boat at the Dock, if you let yourself drift back in time, you can almost see an original old Riverboat that has just docked on it's way to Memphis from New Orleans, you can just see part of Natchez under the Hill; my the stories those trees and old buildings could tell.
A look at what is left of Natchez Under the Hill
The old Train Depot, it is now remodeled into up scale Condos. But they still allow the Carriage Tours to pick up customers in the same old stop that they have been in since the 60s.
And last but not least a view of the Mississippi River Bridge as we entered into LA for lunch.
We had a great Lunch of BLT's and ice tea, at a small place called Mickie's just across the river in LA.
I plan to show some of our treasure in the near future, so be sure and check back later.
My little Rissa is in Johnson City, TN with her Nanna and Grumpy now and I sure do miss her.
My real treasures that We received this day, where the treasure of memories that My little girl will remember for years to come and the joy I received for sharing them with her..
