Thunderboxes .....God Bless Texas

Thunderboxes
This Month some of the prettiest outhouses in Texas Are on display in downtown San Antonio ..The " Thunderbox Road " art exhibit is going on At the Menger Hotel. There are 12 full-sized
"Thunderboxes" or outhouses painted and decorated In true Texas style.Sonja Howle with the Thunderbox Road exhibit says "It was created to pay tribute and showcase the talent We have in the Hill Country artists." In February, the exhibit will be at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. After their tour, the outhouses Will be auctioned off to benefit medical research and The Western Art Museum in Kerrville ...

  1. Those are really neat looking! Makes me wish we could be in San Antonio right now. I grew up there. My husband's grandfather grew-up in Fredricksburg, not too far from Kerrville, and he got into a lot of trouble with outhouses once. Seems he and some friends decided to relocate most of the town's outhouses, and when they went to move the last one, the town sheriff was in it! Needless to say, they had to put them all back, then go explain to their father's why they were doing what they were doing. His father was good friends with the sheriff too, so I am sure he got a good double dose of punishment there! LOL!

    They paint cow statues in Chicago, so why not out hosues in Texas!!!

  4. Born in '29' An attached shed was on our big country house. At the end of the shed was an, 'outhouse' a 3 holer. U. couldn't tell fom the out side. But any seperate 1 we sorta tried to hide it. Painting them up is great but, sure brings attention to what it was. Kind of frosty on the seat in the winter ! ! Somewhere in Maine
