Precious Memories and time to work...

Good morning y'all, well it's another week and every thing seems to be back to normal, I have had a few memories stirring this week-end. I believe it was SmilingSally who asked a question that really brought the memories flooding in. It was a simple question, How do you drink your coffee? Ahhh but it let the memories come pouring in. I was once again setting at the breakfast table in that small apartment in New Orleans with my Daddy, he would be getting ready to go to work, he drove a cab and would leave the house before 3 AM, Mom would always fix his breakfast while he got ready, then I would slip out of bed while everyone else slept. I couldn't have been more than 3 or 4, but it is one memory that will live with me the rest of my life, he'd pull a little stool up to the table where I could reach it and tell, Momma, "hey, Sara, bring this big girl a cup, she needs to drink with her Daddy", I can still hear his strong New Orleans accent. I felt so big setting next to him, then he'd pour 1/2 cup of milk and 1/2 cup coffee, the strong New Orleans kind made from Coffee and Chicory, I would sip it while he ate his breakfast, then he'd pick me up ever so gently, kiss me on the cheek, tuck me back in bed and tell me now you be a good girl today and then he'd leave. I enjoyed those times together because I never knew if he would be home that night or 3 nights later. I loved my Daddy, he never mistreated me or my Sisters, he simply ignored Shirley all together......but he never was really dependable to take care of us. And he wasn't good to my Momma, The last time I woke up at 3 AM in that apartment in New Orleans I was 6, I woke up just in time to keep him from killing Momma in a drunken rage, when I started crying he realized what he was doing, he just stared at me and left, Momma called his Uncle who was District Attorney here in Brookhaven and he came down To New Orleans and brought us home to the farm. Daddy would come and visit every once in awhile, Momma never talked bad about him in front of us and would not tolerate anyone else doing so, She'd say he is their Daddy and I won't make them hate him...... I can tell you those mornings stuck with me, cause I still drink 1/2 milk and 1/2 coffee, as Daddy called it "coffee milk for the pretty little lady with the coal black eyes."
Thanks Sally I haven't thought about that in a long time. Even through the sadness there are precious memories.
I told you about dreaming about redoing my bed room, well here are a few items that I'm thinking about using in the make over......last week I took down 4 picture in the room that had mismatch frames, I love these pictures cause they have meaning to me, I forgot to take a picture of all of them, but here is a picture of how this corner looked last week..you can see 2 of the frames..see how mismatched they were... This is what it looks like now, I have my new curtains just waiting on the comforter set and pillows..Have to cut off my side panels and hem them then will put them up...I am going to use the extra material to make pillows and cover a lampshade to match. I bought the extra long panels because All the different lengths cost the same, so I just decided to buy the longer ones cut to the length I need and have all of the extra material for extras.
Just a little tease, I am also showing you pictures of a few items that Will also go into the remake of this room
Notice the white chest of draws, it won't be white long...hehehehe....You can get a glimps of the old curtains in this one...There will be a make over of the book case..
Will also be using my redwork pillow cases.

Love these cause I did them myself...aren't they neat...last but not least is these items, wonder what I'm going to do with them...not much surprise since I've been talking about it for awhile... can't wait to get them done.

Keep dropping by for up dates, I'm slow but have great plans.

  2. How nice that I was instrumental in causing you to remember a good time with your father. Coffee milk is something my family always did with children too, except we'd have 1 part coffee to 3 parts milk.

  4. I loved hearing about your redecorating project, but I loved even more reading about your precious memories of your Daddy. Yes, life can sometimes bring us things that hurt us. But, how precious that you have been able to hold onto those good memories too. Have a blessed day!

    Many hugs.........

  5. All of us are the same ... we just want to be happy (it's just a shame that some, like your daddy, just go about it the hard way)
But it's good that you retain some sweet memories, because no one's story has only one side :)

BTW, i did click on that other blog link the other day but couldn't figure out how to comment (all in good time )

  7. I like that coffee milk memory, Molly, although it was mixed in with the sad and scary memories, too.

I'm really liking that redo! I wonder what color you will paint that chest of drawers!
