Vintage Thingie Thursday

Visit Suzanne, Coloradolady to see more Vintage Thingies Thursday
Today I wanted to share another part of my Hall's Collection. And a vintage cross that I recieved from a friend, this cross was unearthed when an old store that was built in the 40s was torn down. It was found in the concrete of the slab... Boy, was in bad shape when I recieved it, all covered in mud and cement, my friend thought it was too far gone to save, but I kept worked with it and this is what I found under all that crud...the detail is so fine and delicate that this picture just doesn't do it justice.
The other item I want to share is a Ceramic, glove mold made by Halls and was used in the 30-40's to make rubber gloves. I use it to display this beautiful cross on.
You can see on the bottom where there was a place for pins that attached them to a line that went over the vat of hot rubber where they were dipped, when the rubber dried the glove was removed and this would be returned to the line to dip again.
I hope you enjoyed my VTT item and will come back to visit me....

  1. Oh the cross is so lovely. I'm glad you were patient enough to save it. Love the glove mold too. So clever to use it is a display stand for other pieces.

  2. Beautiful cross-so glad you could recover its beauty (makes you wonder how it got into the cement slab floor). Very interesting story about making rubber gloves...who would have thought that elegant hand was used for such a prosaic purpose-you make much better use of it!

  4. Interesting mold. I never even thought about how rubber gloves were made.

When I clicked on the picture, the details of the cross can be easily seen. You did a good job cleaning it up.

  12. Well, I've never seen a glove mold before, so that is interesting to me but the cross really caught my attention. I can't help but wonder how it got there, who lost it, it's history and the stories it could tell.

  16. Your glove mold is a great way to display that beautiful cross. You must have done a lot of work to clean up the cross to get it to look like it does now.
