Glass block lights......

It's time again for Get-R-Done Friday over at ClassyChassy, so be sure and go by and check out the other great projects and tell Classy thanks for hosting this for us.

This week for my Get R Done project, I am continuing to finish the many last minute things I have to do before Christmas, last week I told about the stocking I had to finish, you can see them here . The girl came and picked it up Tues night and just loved it, she said she was going to leave it out all year...lol..glad she liked it.
This week I have a couple of projects I had to finish, the first is an ornament for our Bible Study Class ornament exchange, that by the way I didn't get to go to..drat...I so looked forward to our get together, I did send my ornie though. I broke another tooth off Tuesday night and had to have it cut out yesterday, so really didn't feel like going.... anyhow I painted a special ornie to give and I wasn't going to let no old tooth keep me from giving it.

I didn't get to take a good picture before sending it off with my DIL, but on the back I wrote Clear Branch Bible Study Class 2009...

The next projects are 2 of the 3 block lights I had to do as Christmas gifts, the first is for my DIL #3's Mom, She loves Snow men so I painted a family of 3 and put their names under each one, Sam, Ann and their son Josh...wasn't sure how I was going to paint it, so just started making forms and this is what came out....

here I started painting and was going to take more pictures but got busy painting and forgot to, sorry...

after painting them I added a string of clear lights and tied a pretty red and gold bow around it, and now it is no longer just a glass block, but also a night light...

The next block is for DIL #1's Mom, she loves my Santas so I painted a Santa with a bag full of toys on her's...also took picture as I started but then just finished painting....and forgot camera,

This is my Get R done projects for this week..hope you enjoyed them and hope it gave you an idea or two for Christmas gifts...I still have one more to do and I will be through...yea....

If you can't paint, you can take the blocks add the string lights and tie a bow around them like a Christmas present and it makes an adorable night light just like that.

Tator Candy, Family Tradition....

Hi ladies, I am taking a break from painting and letting some of my candy get cool so I can put it in cans to store and thought I'd drop by with my Tator Candy recipe, it is a must at my house every year.
My Mom learned to make this while she lived in New Orleans when I was a baby and Sis and I helped make it every year. It was one of the cheapest and easiest candies to make.
My boys love it and look forward to me making it every year. The year I was so sick and couldn't make it, the boys got together and made some for the Christmas dinner.
I haven't made it yet, this year or I'd showed pictures....step by step...

Tator and Peanut Butter Candy

1 large baked potato
2 or 3 lbs bags of powdered sugar, depending on size of potato may need more or less.
jar peanut butter, I like crunchy, DH likes smooth
1tb spoon vanilla favoring
red & green food coloring...optional

peel potato while it is still warm, I simply cut it in half and scoop the insides out. place in large bowl, add vanilla flavoring
start adding sifted powder sugar to potato it will be runny at first, the more powdered sugar you add the firmer the mixture will get, keep adding until dough is consistency of biscuit dough, don't get mixture too stiff.
Then flour counter or large cutting board with powdered sugar and roll out with rolling pin to about 1/2 in. thick.... spread with a thin coat of peanut butter and roll up like a pin wheel, slice the roll into desired thickness. place in can or storage container and refrigerate, can keep for several weeks, but I can assure you it won't last that long..
If you want to make it more festive divide dough into several peices before rolling out and add a drop or 2 of food coloring of your choice to dough them roll out. and finish as directed above.

And the race is on...

Good morning dear friends, I wanted to drop by and tell all my friends I will be away for a few days...I had to hit the floor running this morning, I am such a procrastinator, here it is less than 2 weeks till Christmas and I have really been a bad girl this year. I am having the big family gathering at my house this year.
It's nice to let one of the kids host every now and then, but I feel lost when I do, I miss terribly the feel of all my children coming home...to Momma's house.
But I still have all the presents to wrap..oh my, there is a ton of them, cause I have a ton of family...lol..
Have candy to make, got to have it done by Weds. want to send a package to my step-grandson who can't be home this Christmas. Please keep him in your prayers, it is a long sad story.....He has always loved my tator candy and white chocolate pretzels, so I want to send him a package to let him know we still love him and hold him dear.
Have 8 more gifts to paint, I was a really bad girl this year, just kept putting them off, but got no more time to put them off, will be burning the midnight oil.
Then comes the house cleaning got to do that before next Weds, and cooking, Turkey, ham, dressing, the works.

This week, my 2d time around item is made with this glass candle stick, the one in the center...I found several candles sticks one day while junkin' and I remembered a post I had seen several days before, but I am sorry, I don't remember what blog it was on...if it is your idea, if you will let me know I will gladly give you credit for the idea, it wasn't mine, but I really liked it..

So I took the candle stick and

a plain little bowl and my handy tube of Gorilla glue and made

Isn't it the neatest little footed dish, well I filled it full of soft green glass beads and added it to my new bathroom redo,

Doesn't it look cute sitting on my freshly painted white shelf.....I also made the little footed candle holders on each end of the shelf with small candle sticks and small square votive cups added cream color votive candles and viola instant decor...home made version.

REMEMBER THIS AT CHRISTMAS TIME

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December. Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring.

Therefore, according to EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer, EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl.

We should've known...

ONLY women would be able to drag a fat man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost.
