Medical News

Good morning I have had several people inquire as to my Drs appointment yesterday.
Well, for the 3d time since Nov. my Dr has had to cancel (reschedule) my appointment. When I first made my appointment or rather Dr. Lee made my appointment with this Dr back in Aug. it was for Nov 23, well they call 3 weeks before the appointment and changed it to Dec 11, Kept that one and he told me to come back in 2 mos after taking certain meds and having more test run. Test were last week, original appt. was for Weds 18th, they called last week and moved it to Fri the 20th, Yesterday.
DH and I got up at 4:30, and got ready to make the 2 hr drive for my 10 o'clock appointment. We were about 8 miles from home and my cell phone rang, it was my son Lance at Saint D. my Dr's office couldn't reach us, so they called him and said to get in touch with us that the Dr had to leave the office for a family emergency. OK so it was better than us getting there and having to drive back...I know...but I want to know what is wrong with me, I'm ever more sick of being sick...NOW I have to wait till next week to even know when my next appointment will be. They have to wait till he knows he'll be back. I mean, I know they are human and have emergencies also, but this is getting ,,aghhhhhh.....If he wasn't a good Dr and highly recommended I'd find me another one, but good Drs around here are hard to find and in this field especially....
So I really appricate the emails asking what I found out but my answer is NOTHING.
We did take advantage of already being up dressed and on the road...lol..we went to several small towns Junkin' and ate dinner, before returning home.

Pretty in Pink

My friend Beverly of How Sweet The Sound is hosting a PINK SATURDAY. This is my first time to take part, be sure and check out all the other pretty pink items over at her blog...

My picture today is of my Granddaughter, Morgan she loves the color pink and I just love this picture of her made 3 yrs ago. She is wearing a soft pink dress. She picked out the frame from some that I already had on hand, not surprising she picked out one with pink in it.
I hope you enjoyed looking at my pink offering this morning and will come back to visit some time.

Molly's Country Memories

Mary, Grandma, Bear, Bug and the sunken boat?
Our Farm set a 1 1/2 miles back on a dead end road, you had to pass Mr. Britt’s
Land on the left side of the road and the railroad on the right, this area was about 3/4 mile long, about 1/2 of the way up this road you could cross the rail road to enter our north pasture on the other side of the tracks, continuing west up the drive you came to a sharp curve that took a left and headed south at the little house where Emmel and Clementine lived, (it set on a bluff over the railroad track,) and traveled about a football field length to a dead end that took a shape right back west, up to our farm house. Kind of like and S shape. There were pastures on both sides of the road. At the second dead end was a large 9-10 acre wooded area, you could enter a gap and go into a large clearing connected to the woods. We loved going in there mainly because of the wild flowers and the delicious blackberries that grew in the spring, there was also a large pond in this area. At night we would chase lightening bugs for hours out there, I loved to catch them in a jar. But that’s for another tale….
But……now this wooded area is where one of our many adventures took place, I was about 7 at the time and Sis was 9, we were daredevils and would try anything once. If we could get away with it probably twice.
Clementine was a sweet lady, as big around as she was tall, bless her heart she was busy from sun up to sun down, with 12 kids plus two little white girls who were full of mischief…we adopted her and she was too loving to tell us to go home..lol..I don’t remember all of the kids names, She had 2 boys probably 15 and 18 at the time who helped Emmell work the fields and a 16 yr old girl who helped her around the house and helped take care of the younger children. There was a set of twins Mary & Bug age 8 and Grandma who was 10, but acted like an old Grandma, thus her nickname, and last there was Bear, he was a big old boy age round 13-14. His & Grandma’s job was to take care or rather to keep the twins and me and Dean from getting into trouble…hehehe…we were so good at doing that. As was Bear and Grandma. It was like telling the fox to watch the hen house. There were 5 more littler ones that we wouldn’t allow to tag along.
Well one morning as usual after we finished our chours and Momma was home with Shirley, we were looking for something to do, so we decided to go to the woods and pick blackberries for Clementine to cook, we’d worry about the fact that she was going to kill us for going near that pond after we did it…then she couldn’t stop us. Now this was a different time & place, another whole world apart from our times now. In today's world you couldn't let a child roam all day without checking on them, back in the good old days we could be gone from daylite to dark and no one had to worry. The best place to pick big juice blackberries WAS on the pond bank, now remember this is MS and water moccasins are a fact of life on the ponds in the summer time, the thickets around the pond with those big blackberries was just made for Snakes. But we were bullet proof, and we had Granddaddy’s big English bull dog, Spot (real unusual name) with us and he hated snakes, he had been bitten so many times that it just pissed him off when one bite him.
Me, Spot and Momma

Well after a while and 3 dead snakes later we decided we needed to go to the other side, the blackberries where bigger over there, now this pond was about as big as an average above ground swimming pool, but it had a large brier patch on 3 sides so we decided to build a raft and cross this pond, Well now Huck Finn had nothing on us.. Bear and Bug scrapped up some limbs and some large honeysuckle vines we found near by and we made the neatest raft you ever saw, of course we miss judged the size and when all 6 of us little wayward rascals plus a big spotted dog climbed on board we made it just far enough from the bank that when it went down we looked like a bunch of drowned rats scurrying to the bank, Spot was the last one out cause he found him a big snake to take care of first. I think for the first time we were a little scared, snakes hid under water...We even lost our pail of blackberries, well darn, all that trouble for nothing and boy did we know we were in trouble. We stayed in the woods as long as we could, trying to let our clothes dry before going home, I really don’t know why, there was no way we fooled Clementine, she knew where we’d been the minute she laid eyes on us, and I want you to know Mary and Grandma’s little black bottoms was just as red as our little white bottoms were, when she got through with that hair brush…. Lol…Then she ironed mine and Dean’s clothes so when we went home Granny wouldn’t know…she knew that her spanking was done out of love, but what Granny would have done was anything but out of love. Then it was Bear and Bugs turn, she told Emmell when he got home and he took a strap to them, not bad just enough to scared them to death, if they though that was going to stop us they were so wrong. We forgot all about the punishment the next day and another adventure began.
We heard the train whistle when it sounded at the trestle a mile down the road………..

His Daddy has raised him since he was very little and they have a special bond...

Even at 4 yrs old he could beat Ronnie at computer games

His first taste of Crawfish, we laughted till we cried ,he tried eating pinchers and all..a love was formed early on...if there are crawfish around don't get in this boy's way...lol

He still loves hunting with his Dad

Then first grade arrived, we turned around and he was no longer a little boy but a young man...

He loves his little Sister
His computer

His baseball and soccer , Richland was South State Champs in 2008 his Senior year, he kicked the winning goal, these are the Seniors on the team. He played sick for over a month, the Dr kept telling him it was a bad cold, and we couldn't make him sit out, not for one night..the night they played and lost State Champs, he collasped on the field and still didn't want to sit out. It turned out he had Mono, he was one sick boy, that was a yr ago and he still hasn't regained his total strenght back.

And his Hannah

He graduated in 2008 and started Hinds Community College in the Fall and is taking his pre-req for Nursing, his girl who he was been going with since he was 14 is in her first year of Nursing School, she graduated in 2007, so hopefully he will get in next year and if they both become Nurses won't that be sweet. They grow so fast as the old song goes "Turn around and he's little, turn and around and he's are grown, turn around and he's a young man going out of the door" It is so true. Hold on to them while you can enjoy them, slow down and don't rush.
Well that ends my pictures of the family for this week. Come back and visit again.

More Molly's Country Memories

Mule Teams and Pig slop....
When we moved back to Brookhaven from New Orleans in 1949, we had a family that lived down the lane from us. Emmel and Clementine Hudson, they had 12 kids, 4 close to mine and my Sister’s age…. Together we were bad to the bone, poor Clementine…lol…
A little background..... My Grandfather not only farmed over a hundred acres and had cows and pigs, (did I ever mention I hate pigs.) He made a decent living, he never got rich, but that was never important to him. He also had a freight hauling business for nearly 45 yrs. He was know as a drayman, he hauled freight by mule team. We had a railroad that ran through Brookhaven and he would haul freight from the train station to the little communities near by that didn’t have a Rail Road.
That was so awesome to me. I loved the mule teams.
This is not a picture of them but what they looked like.
They were extremely big Jack’s and very ill tempered, no one but Granddaddy or Emmel could handle them, but if Shirley happen to be around them, they wouldn’t move a muscle, she could crawl all over them and they wouldn’t even swat a fly with their tails…isn’t it amazing how Animals can sense a special child. Anyhow he had switched to a truck in the late 30s", but had kept the mules for working on the farm..
Back to Emmel, he had worked for my Grandpa for about 12 yrs helping load and unload freight, remember Grandpa had a wooden leg so he couldn’t do a lot of carrying. Grandpa started going down around 1945 he had a heart problem, so in 1949, he gave up his business and stopped farming the 100 acres. The problem was my Grandpa was a special person, he loved the man working for him and couldn’t stand the thought of Emmel being out of work, so he made a deal with him, he could move his family into a house on the place that he’d built for my uncle, when he first got married, Uncle Reggie had since moved to Beaumont, TX, in the 30s and didn’t live there, it was just sitting empty. And he could farm the land, Grandpa didn’t want to see the land go down and lay ferule , neither one of his boys cared for farm life, they had long moved to the city. He was not going to be a share cropper, Grandpa didn’t want him to give him anything for the house or the land, he was to take care of it as if it was his own and what ever he earned was his, I only mention this because so many people think that if a Black man worked a white man’s land in the South it was as a sharecropper, but this wasn’t the case, all Granddaddy asked of Emmel was when he died for Emmel to look after Mom and make sure no one mistreated her.

My Mom and Uncle Norman in front of the Farm House 1953

Granny and Jimmy in 1952 in front of the old gate.
Even though my Granddaddy was a kind and loving man, the same could not be said about my Grandmother, she was a cruel, mean, hateful woman, and even though GD loved my momma dearly my Granny didn’t, she had 1 child and 1 child only and that was Uncle Norman. She hated us being there, she didn’t love my little Shirley at all. She called her that retard…can you imagine your own Granddaughter, and an Angel on top of that? To be totally honest, I didn’t know you were suppose to love your Grandmother, I was always so in awe and couldn’t understand when kids at school talked about their Grandmother doing this or giving them that…the only think my Granny gave me was the back of her hand or a cussing, and boy could she cuss. Poor Granddaddy he loved her, why I don’t know. I do believe when she passed she still had the first penny she ever made. I remember ever Sat morning while Momma worked she would load me, Dean and Shirley into her old ‘41 Dodge and make her rounds to all the big shots houses and gathered up the week’s worth of slop to take home to feed the pigs rather than buy pig food, Granddaddy would tell her, Molly you don't have to get slop, we aren't that poor. But she wouldn’t listen. You've never lived till your known as the slop woman's grand child. We lived in a small town and everyone knew everyone . . Grandpa lived untill 1950...we loved living with him, I remember setting on his wooden leg combing his white hair, he had beautful white hair. He would set for hours and let us comb his hair and tell us stories about his freight hauls.
I don’t want this to get too long, so I will stop and write more later, be sure and stop back by and check out the next edition…. Mary, Grandma, Bear, Bug, and the sunken boat.....
